Review – Luminous Silk Foundation by Giorgio Armani

Hi loves!

Back with new review today. I have been waiting a long time to write this review because I really wanted to have tried this foundation well enough before establishing an opinion. This foundation is my first high end foundation. It has been used by so many beauty bloggers and beauty vloggers. I even read an article where it says that Kim K. is using this foundation and famous Instagrammer @Amrezy has it in her holy grail of beauty products (read it here*). Reasons enough to been longing for this product for a while now. I’ve had my doubts because let’s face it, this foundation is not cheap! But I couldn’t resist anymore.

*update: apparently Amrezy’s website is offline! Too bad! Sorry loves!

I got the foundation in the number 7.5. I got the color matched to my skin tone in Debenhams. This was before I got a little bit of a tan. If I would color match now I would probably be an 8 or even a 8.5. Even though the 7.5 is a shade lighter than my current skin tone it’s still looking beautiful. I picked up the The Luminous Silk Foundation for €49.50. This is my first high end foundation so I can only compare it with my current drugstore foundations. Which are the L’oreal True Match (€16.99) foundation in W7 or the L’oreal Eau de Teint (€17.50) foundation in 190.

How do I apply the Armani Luminous Silk foundation?

I shake the bottle well before use. Then I apply just one pump on the back of my hand. With my finger I tap some product on my cheeks, my chin and my forehead. I use the Real Techniques Stippling brush to buff this into my skin. I like this brush because it gives a light coverage than a more dense buffing brush. One pump is enough to do my whole face. I use a translucent powder like the Rimmel Stay Matte powder (€9.99) or the L’oreal True Match powder foundation (€14.99) in W7 afterwards on my whole face with a large powder brush to set the foundation.

Luminous Silk foundation features an exclusive Micro-fil technology. So weightless, it redefines foundation. Its hydrating fluid glides on seamlessly with a silky texture and all-day, buildable coverage. For all skin types.”

The texture of this foundation is indeed very creamy, silky and thick. Compared to both L’oreal foundations which are very liquidy. The foundation buffs perfectly into my skin and it’s indeed very buildable. If I want more coverage I just add more product to the specific areas on my face. Because of the texture being so thick I need less product than I would with my drugstore foundations.

Although it says that this foundation is for all skin types. I have my doubts if you have an oily skin. I have a combination skin, where my face is normal but my t-zone is oily. During the day I would notice my skin getting more oily, which is less when I use the L’oreal Eau de Teint foundation.

I have heard some vloggers saying that this foundation photographs beautifully. Yes, I do feel that the coverage is perfect and my skin does look flawless. But I’m not sure if the difference is that big compared to using my drugstore foundations. It does last much longer.

So my opinion on this foundation. Yes, the texture of this foundation is lovely, blends and feels great on my skin. Yes, this foundation doesn’t cause me to break out. Yes, I like the way this foundation photographs. Yes, this foundation lasts long. Yes, you just need a small amount of product to get a nice coverage.

No, I don’t feel this foundation is suitable when you have an oily skin. No, this foundation is not cheap. No, I don’t think this foundation is the best to use during summer time when your skin tends to get oilier.

The overall verdict. Yes, I would buy this foundation again, but I would only use this for a special occasions like a party, when clubbing or when I have my picture taken. I don’t have that much extra change in my pocket, so it’s still quite an expense.

If you follow me on Instagram you will find a couple of photo’s where I’m wearing the Luminous Silk foundation. Here are a couple of them.

I hope you enjoyed my review of the Armani Luminous Silk foundation. Let me know in the comments what you think about this product!
