Last week I was in Germany and I went to Douglas to check out their NYX Cosmetics line. Instead I stubbled upon this new eyeliner from Benefit Cosmetics. I bought it together with the They’re Real Beyond Mascara. These two products come in one box together with a test sample of the They’re Real Remover for a total of €25,00. The eyeliner is smaller in size than when you would buy it seperately. It’s a limited edition set for sale now!
I do love the packaging!
So, let’s start with the eyeliner. There are a lot of reviews already out there about the eyeliner, most of them not very positive. Benefit Cosmetics claims this is the first ever lash-hugging gel liner in a pen. The matte black gel formula won’t smudge, budge or dry out. It lasts 24 hours and is waterproof.
That does sound appealing to me. An eyeliner that stays put all day, no need for touch ups in between. That sounds fab! Before starting I watch a short tutorial from Benefit on how to use the eyeliner pen.
First I have to prep the pen, by twisting the base a couple of times. For me it took about 30 clicks. Wipe off any excess, give it one more click and it’s good to go. I think you have to get the hang of it, but when you do, it comes out quite good. I created a small line, with a little flick at the end. The way the tip is created makes it a lot easier to create a wing. After that all you have to do is connect is to the line on your lid and fill it in. The color comes out really black as well. This is the final result.
I’m not very impressed by the They’re Real Beyond Mascara. After reading so many positive reviews, I had my hopes up. My eyelashes are short, straight and thin. Maybe I expected a miracle with this mascara I don’t know. As you can see in the picture above, the mascara doesn’t do anything spectacular for me.
Yes or No:
Yes to the eyeliner! I believe that with some practice, you can get a good line out of it. I have been wearing it all day and it still looks the same as when I applied it this morning. I will play with it some more the next couple of weeks, maybe get a good thick dramatic cat eye out of it.
No the mascara. It’s probably me. But hey, I’m not the only one struggling with the worst eyelashes on the planet right. I have used drugstores mascara’s that did more for me than this one. So. My search for THE mascara continues. Any recommendations? Please leave a comment!
Hope this review was helpfull.
